 JULY 22 & 23, 2017: TWO DAYS OF ART CAR FUN! 

about the Art Car Jam - SATURDAY, JULY 22 - FREE event!

The 3rd Annual Art Car Jam is an event dedicated to street-legal vehicles that can be decorated with paint, "obtainium", and whatever your mind can conjure! Located at the Obtainium Works Art Car Studio at 510 Pennsylvania Street, Vallejo (cross Sutter Street), this event is free and open to the public and will include workshops on how to decorate a car, truck, trailer, bicycle or baby stroller!

Food, Drinks, Music & Merchandise

The festival starts at 11:00am each day where you can view the art cars, buy some food and refreshments, look at some of our steampunk-inspired vending booths, a fashion show by renowned artist Annie Coulter, and listen to the sounds of DJ music by Grego including karaoke at the evening party.

Saturday July 22

11:00am - 1:00pm: Workshops: How-to demonstrations for painting, gluing, riveting, hammering, and calking.

1:00pm Beer Garden & Food Vendors open.

1:00pm - 3:00pm: Live art car decoration. Take what you've learned and help the artists embellish their vehicles. 

3:00pm - 4:00pm: Fashion Show.  Featuring wacky driving outfits for your unique art car.

4:00-7:00pm:  DJ music.

about the obtainium cup - sunDAY, JULY 23 - FREE event!

The 6th Annual Obtainium Cup Contraptor's Rally is a 4-mile mad-cap jaunt through
historic Mare Island, braving such hazards as Flying Monkeys, Zombies, Mad Hatters, Robots, Pirates and Baby Strollers! Human-powered vehicles and bicycles from around the Bay Area will be competing based on creativity, tenacity, and participation

The festival starts at 11:00amwhere you can view the vehicles as they set up for the rally, buy some food and refreshments, look at some of our steampunk-inspired vending booths, and listen to live music by McPuzo & Trotsky and O' Happy Dagger.

Sunday July 23

11:00am - 1:00pm: Steampunk Vendors. Art cars arrive and on display.

1:00pm - 7:00pm: Beer Garden and Food Vendors open.

1:00pm - 3:00pm: Live music featuring McPuzo & Trotsky & O' Happy Dagger

3:00pm-5:00pm:  Obtainium Cup Rally. Starts and returns at Alden Park.

5:30pm-6:30pm: Awards ceremony.

6:30pm-8:00pm: DJ music

Following the Rally

The rally will begin at 3pm and the map will give you information on parking at the different challenges.  If you are riding a bicycle, please feel free to join the participants as long as you observe road etiquette and rules (please take note of the traffic bump on Walnut Avenue).  If you want to drive your car to the different hazards, please use Azuar Drive and park in the designated areas.  

Obtainium Cup Challenges 

All registered participants will be maneuvering their vehicles through challenges as part of their Cup experience - we have added 2 this year! 

  • First: Flying Monkeys at Vino Godfather where they will be target shooting with stuffed animals!
  • Second: Stroller Derby at Independent Property Services where participants will have to navigate around the strollers and their occupants!
  • Third: Pirates at Alstom Railway where where you will need to avoid walking the plank!
  • Fourth: Robots at Touro University. Participants will need to use their wits to survive the onslaught of robot snark.
  • Fifth: Zombies at the Shoreline Heritage Preserve
  • Sixth: Mad Hatter Tea Party in Alden Park on Walnut Avenue.

The challenges are meant for the participants in the event, but you are welcome to observe and enjoy the antics!

Race Finish & After Party 

The race will finish when the last vehicle crosses the finish line at Alden Park or no later than 5pm.  Afterwards, there will be an awards ceremony along with food items, refreshments, and music until 7pm.

Facilities

There are 3 porta-potties at Alden Park (one handicap accessible) as well as 2 porta-potties at the Preserve (one handicap accessible).
